Your Automatic Impulse Began at Conception
The first imprint
Your number — your constant, automatic impulse — forms in a single moment: your conception. The Maya understood this as far more than a biological event. The energies, the feelings, and the intentions present in the union of your parents leave the first imprint on your forming consciousness, and that imprint becomes the way you instinctively meet life ever after.
Like water, which takes its character from its source and then flows that way for the rest of its course, the atmosphere of your beginning sets a pattern that does not change. In this first moment the father plays an important role: the character of the act itself shapes the impulse you carry.
Why the report speaks about your conception and your parents
Because your constant impulse formed in that atmosphere, describing it is how the tradition traces where your impulse comes from. The report describes the sexual act itself — the mood of that moment, what mostly filled your father's mind, how strong the impulse behind the act was, what energies met there. Days are different, and people are different from one day to the next. These descriptions do not describe your parents' overall life — they describe the one moment you were made. No two situations are alike. Think of it as the tradition's way of explaining the origin of a pattern, never a judgment of your parents.
A note on the "masculine domain"
In the tradition, conception is called the masculine domain, and pregnancy the feminine domain. This is not about superiority — it simply marks where each parent's contribution is most pronounced: the father's at the moment of conception, the mother's across the nine months that follow. (Today, conception can come about in other ways as well; what your number reflects is the atmosphere and conditions of that beginning.)
The masculine influence does not end at conception. But during pregnancy it takes a different form — the tradition calls it the masculine complement, and it is no longer necessarily the father. We come to that in Gestation.
Both parents shape the beginning
While the father's role is most pronounced at conception, both parents' energies matter. The strength each brings shapes the vigor of the inner being that is forming — and the mother's energy is especially influential in how strong that inner being becomes. Conception sets the impulse; the nine months that follow will shape it further.
Thirteen kinds of beginning
The tradition recognizes thirteen distinct kinds of conception — thirteen different atmospheres a beginning can carry, from the calm and uncomplicated to the intense and deeply charged. Each gives rise to one of the thirteen numbers, and so to a different constant impulse. Your report describes the particular one that shaped you.
