There are thirteen numbers, and each tells the story of a different kind of conception. The tradition recognizes thirteen distinct atmospheres a beginning can carry — thirteen ways the energies of a union can meet — and each gives rise to a different constant impulse, a different way of reacting to life. No number is higher or better than another. Each is simply its own way of beginning, with its own strengths and its own challenges.
Always the same way

Neither is stronger or better; they are two directions the same constant force can run.
Some numbers carry a further shade of their quality. A masculine impulse can be passive — it has the quality to push forward, but it sits in a kind of middle: it still needs direction, and it can be influenced by stronger forces around it. Or it can be aggressive, where the force presses forward with full directness. A feminine impulse can be active: still receiving first, but engaging immediately with what it receives rather than only collecting it. And one number is adaptive — it takes on the quality of the nawal it is paired with, expressing masculine alongside a masculine nawal and feminine alongside a feminine one.
